STANDISH, Maine – #6/10 Saint Joseph's College (14-0, 10-0 GNAC) skated past Albertus Magnus College (4-5-4, 3-2-4 GNAC), 10-0, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's soccer contest on Saturday afternoon.
THE LEAD
Seven different players scored and three hit pay dirt twice in the lopsided victory, as seniors Jesse Ramirez (Dumont, N.J.) and Brett Mattos (Mahopac, N.Y.) and freshman Jonathan Brackett (Hollis, N.H.) notched a brace apiece to help the Monks cruise to victory.
THE KEEPERS
SJC senior Blake Mullen (Manchester, Conn.) turned away one shot in 79:15 minutes and sophomore David Walbridge (Hampden, Mass.) made three saves, including one on a PK attempt, in 10:45 of relief work.
Albertus keeper Joe Russo faced 29 shots and made 19 saves in the loss.
TEAM STATS
Saint Joseph's held sizeable leads in shots (39-6), shots on goal (30-4), and corner kicks 15-4) on the afternoon.
NOTEWORTHY:
- Freshman Kuma Onyejose (East Greenwich, R.I.) registered a goal and two assists
- Senior Rory Twomey (South Windsor, Conn.) scored a PK goal at the 27:50 mark
- Junior Cody Elliott (Gorham, Maine) delivered a pair of assists
- Junior Ryan Buonaiuto (Scituate, R.I.) and sophomore Thomas Hennessey (Canterbury, N.H.) also scored goals in the lopsided win
HISTORICALLY SPEAKING
With the victory, Saint Joseph's is now 7-8 all time versus Albertus Magnus College and has now defeated the Falcons in three consecutive meetings for the first time in the history of the series.
