Monks Ranked 19th Nationally, Seventh in New England in Preseason Polls

STANDISH, Maine – The 2019 United Soccer Coaches preseason polls have been announced and Saint Joseph's College is ranked 19th heading into the upcoming campaign. The Monks are also ranked seventh in the 2019 New England Soccer Journal preseason coaches poll.

The Monks, 21-1 overall with an 11-0 mark in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play last season, finished 2018 ranked 14th in the D3Soccer.com national poll and 19th in the United Soccer Coaches rankings.

Led by first-year Head Coach Will Pike '11, the Monks figure to remain among the top teams in New England this fall after setting program records for wins (21), winning streak (21), goals (81), assists (64), points (226), and shots (513) in 2018.

The three-time defending GNAC Champions return six starters from last year's side, which defeated Johnson & Wales University, 1-0, in the conference title bout on November 4th and proceeded to defeat Middlebury College by a 2-1 score in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in Amherst six days later. With a loss to Amherst College in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, the Monks saw a 42-game undefeated streak – the fifth-longest in NCAA DIII Men's Soccer history – come to a close.

A solid corps of returners – including 2018 All-GNAC honorees Jackson Taylor (Gorham, Maine), Cody Elliott (Gorham, Maine), Noah Robinson (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.), and Mitchell Duncan (Sanford, Maine) - figure to lead the Monks as they look to contend for the program's fourth-consecutive GNAC title this fall.

Saint Joseph's is one of four New England Region teams to be listed on the United Soccer Coaches preseason poll, as the Monks are joined by #1 Tufts, #13 Amherst, #23 Connecticut College on the 2019 docket.
