Men Topple Husson, 127-97

BANGOR, Maine – The Saint Joseph's College men's swim team posted a 127-97 victory over Husson University in the 2014-15 season opener on Saturday afternoon. The women also defeated the Eagles – by a 148-99 margin – to register the second sweep in SJC program history.

The Monks were led to victory by junior Alex Gilvey (Windham, Maine), who topped the field in the 200-Free (1:57.33), 500-Free (5:28.70) and 100-IM (1:00.05) events, and senior Preston Bowden (Biddeford, Maine), who won the 50-Back (28.43), 50-Free (24.36) and 100-Free (53.96) events.

Sophomore Ben Johnson (Belmont, Mass.) placed first in the 100-Fly (57.34) and 50-Fly (25.89) and junior Andrew Merlino (Natick, Mass.) posted a 1:05.25 effort to win the 100-Back and finished second in the 50-Back (29.84).

Senior Adam Gaulin (Belfast, Maine), making his return after serving a tour for the Army in Afghanistan last year, notched a victory in the 100-Breast (1:07.15) and finished second in the 50-Breast (30.37) and 100-IM (1:02.38) races.

Saint Joseph's returns to action next Saturday when the Monks host Elms College in the team's 2014-15 home-opener. The meet begins at 1:00 PM.
