Merlino Earns GNAC Weekly Honor Roll Mention

STANDISH, Maine – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly awards have been released and Saint Joseph's College senior swimmer Andrew Merlino (Natick, Mass.) has collected GNAC Honor Roll mention.

Merlino enjoyed his finest event as a collegiate swimmer against Gordon College on Saturday, as the senior captain posted a trio of individual victories, recorded top times in the 100-Free (54.73), 50-Fly (26.39), and 100-Fly (1:01.48) versus the Fighting Scots.

For Merlino, the three-victory feat is a career-first and increases his four-year win total to 18. The senior captain has shown considerable improvement across the board during his collegiate career; as a freshman he swam the 100-Free in 1:06.08, the 50-Fly in 31.43, and the 100-Fly in 1:16.52, improvements by approximately 12, five and 15 seconds, respectively, in the events in which he participated at Gordon on Saturday.

The weekly conference award is also the first of Merlino's college career.

Saint Joseph's will feature a handful of swimmers in the Maine Event at Bates College this Saturday. The meet starts at 10:00 AM.
