GORHAM, ME – The Saint Joseph's College track and field program participated in its second varsity competition – the first of two University of Southern Maine Invitational events – on Saturday afternoon.
For the second consecutive meet, Jack LaFreniere (Alton, N.H.) fared quite well as the senior recorded the Monks' lone victory of the afternoon with a 22.95 in closely-contested 200 meter dash and also placed third in the 55 meter dash (6.81).
Also performing well were Joe DiSalvo (Derry, N.H.), who was the runner-up in the 800 meter run (2:20.79), and Billy Brooks (Cape Elizabeth, Maine), who placed third in the 400 meter dash (58.90).
Jared Azulay (Reading, Mass.) was fourth in the 400 meter dash (1:00.92) and 25th in the 200 meter dash (26.95), Sam Dunay (Groton, Conn.) placed fifth in the 55 meter hurdles (9.07) and was 17th in the 200 meter dash (25.70), and Connor Dufour (Augusta, Maine) finished sixth in the 600 meter run (1:36.40).
Bryndon Page (Windham, Maine) was seventh in the 600 meter run (1:38.26), Jeff Merrill (Fitchburg, Mass.) placed eighth in the 600 meter run (1:43.98), Matt Boucher (Augusta, Maine) finished ninth in the 600 meter run (1:47.49), and Andrew Caron (Gardiner, Maine) finished 10th in the 3000 meter run (11:20.25).
The Monks' 4x200 relay team, featuring Faisal Abdillahi (Lewiston, Maine), Dufour, Brooks and LaFreniere placed third with a 1:37.30 effort.
Colby College, Husson University, Southern Maine, Rhode Island College, University of Maine-Farmington and Wheaton College also competed in the event, which did not feature team scoring.
Saint Joseph's is set to participate in the Bowdoin College Invitational on Saturday at 12:00 PM.
