Monks Compete in USM Invitational

GORHAM, ME – The Saint Joseph's indoor track and field program competed in the University of Southern Maine Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The competition was a non-scoring event.

Senior Faisal Abdillahi (Lewiston, Maine) highlighted the day for the Monks with a program-record time (1:24.11) and top finish in the 600-Meter run. Sophomores Billy Brooks (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) and Taidghe Hagan (Reading, Mass.) also performed well with fifth-place finishes in the 200-Meter dash (24.27) and 1000-Meter run (2:51.96) events, respectively.

The 4x400-Meter relay team, comprised of Abdillahi, Brooks, Gavin Frisbee (Kittery Point, Maine) and Connor Dufour (Augusta, Maine), showed promise with a fifth-place finish (3:52.69).

Two program records fell on the women's side, as Lauren Rabideau (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) broke the 800-Meter run mark – and placed fifth overall - with a 2:37.34 effort and freshman Gabby Lodge (Westbrook, Maine) bested her own mark with a 4.07 meter performance in the long jump event. Junior Heather Eaton (Lincolnville, Maine) also broke the 800-Meter run record but finished just .42 seconds behind her sophomore teammate and placed sixth.

Junior Amber Dostie (Standish, Maine) recorded a top finish with a 3:14.85 time in the 1000-Meter run, junior Doe Leckie (Naples, Maine) was fifth in the 55-Meter hurdles (9.38) and the Monks also boasted a runner-up finish in the distance medley (14:05.20) event.

Saint Joseph's will next compete in the two-day Bates College Invitational, which begins at 5:00 PM on Friday.
