Men Place 34th in ECAC New England Championship

BRISTOL, RI – Saint Joseph's College placed 34th with 938 points in the 2013 ECAC DIII New England 8K Men's Cross Country Championship on Saturday.

Junior Joe DiSalvo (Derry, N.H.) paced the Monks with a 28:20 effort to place 110th overall while freshman Nick Shuckrow (Winslow, Maine) was 139th (28:44) and sophomore Andrew Caron (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) finished 226th (30:33) in the annual event.

Featuring the top three individual runners, Williams College claimed the team title for the eighth time in the last nine years with 26 points, well ahead of runner-up Tufts University, which tallied 75 points. Amherst College was third with 84 points, Colby College finished fourth with 141 points and Middlebury College rounded out the top five with 175 points.

Cole Townsend earned top-individual accolades after touring the 8K course in 25:43, eight seconds faster than teammate Todd Ford. Kieran Scannell (Williams, 26:00), Marshall Pagano (Tufts, 26:02) and Brian Wersan (St. Joseph's LI, 26:07) closed out the top five finishers.

For Saint Joseph's, sophomore Taidghe Hagan (Reading, Mass.) finished 250th (31:06), sophomore Connor Dufour (Augusta, Maine) placed 255th (31:15), junior Jeff Merrill (Fitchburg, Mass.) was 298th (33:25) and junior Matt Boucher (Augusta, Maine) raced to a 311th-place (35:11) finish.

Saint Joseph's will cap the 2013 campaign with an appearance in the NCAA DIII New England next Saturday in Gorham, Maine.
