Men Race to 11th Place Finish at UNE

BIDDEFORD, Maine – The Saint Joseph's College men's cross country team placed 11th with 305 points in the University of New England Invitational at Rotary Park on Saturday. Sophomore Lucas Fisher (Strafford, N.H.) led the Monks with a 29:35 performance and finished 24th out of 162 runners overall.

For the Monks, senior Taidghe Hagan (Reading, Mass.) was 51st with a 31:10 time, senior Andrew Caron (Gardiner, Maine) placed 76th with a 32:34 performance, and junior Nick Shuckrow (Winslow, Maine) finished 119th with a 35:23 effort. Seniors Connor Dufour (Augusta, Maine) (125th, 35:53) and Billy Brooks (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) (159th, 42:57) rounded out the SJC quintet in the annual event.

With all five scorers in the top 11 overall, UNE cruised to the team title with 38 points, well ahead of runner-up Wentworth Institute, which notched 87 points on the afternoon. Endicott College (101), Plymouth State University (131) and Gordon College (141) rounded out the top five programs.

The Nor'easters have now won their yearly event in back to back seasons.

Damon Kilgore of Gordon College claimed the individual title with a 26:44 time, nearly a minute faster than runner-up Samuel Brunette, who toured the 8K course in 27:40. UNE's Cameron Vallie was third (27:51), Endicott's Zachary Marshall finished fourth (27:58) and Warren Bartlett of Plymouth State was fifth (28:02) individually.

Saint Joseph's returns to action on Saturday, September 26th at the Bowdoin Invitational in Brunswick.
