BIDDEFORD, Maine – The Saint Joseph's College men's cross country team opened the 2016 campaign by competing in a 5K race, hosted by University of New England at Rotary Park on Saturday.
THE LEAD
Saint Joseph's featured a pair of runners in the top four overall and finished third with 47 team points, behind University of Maine-Farmington (33) and UNE (40). Senior Nick Shuckrow (Winslow, Maine) finished as the runner-up with a 17:14 effort, just one second off the pace of individual winner Robbie Hollis of UMF, while junior Lucas Fisher (Strafford, N.H.) placed fourth with a 17:39 time.
Today's event counts as the cross country debut for Head Coach Scott Hutchinson, who was hired as the leader of the Monks' cross country and track & field programs last spring.
THE RUNDOWN:
- Freshman Ben Plante (Biddeford, Maine) placed 12th with a 19:05 effort
- First-year Kevin McWilliams (New Milford, Conn.) was 14th with a 19:09 performance
- Senior Connor Dufour (Augusta, Maine) raced to a 15th-place finish (19:24)
- Freshman Jacob Boissonnault (Biddeford, Maine) finished 20th (20:29)
- Rookie Connor White (Bayport, N.Y.) placed 23rd (21:02)
- Freshman Andrew D'Ovidio (Walpole, Mass.) was 24th (21:19)
- Freshman Zach Hirst (Old Orchard Beach, Maine) finished 25th (21:31)
- First-year Cameron Brown (South Portland, Maine) placed 28th (24:46)
- Sophomore Marshall Berninghausen (Brasher Falls, N.Y.) was 30th (25:39)

Saint Joseph's returns to action next Saturday with an appearance in the Husson Invitational. The men's race is slated to begin at 11:00 AM.
