GORHAM, Maine – Saint Joseph's College competed in the 2017 NCAA DIII New England Cross Country Championship at the Gorham Country Club on Saturday. The men placed 41st with 1265 points while the women finished 53rd with 1543 points.

THE RUNDOWN - MEN:

• Senior Lucas Fisher (Strafford, N.H.) paced the Monks and finished 211th with a 29:25.7 effort in what was the final cross country race of his NCAA career
• Freshman Brandon Whitlock (Westbrook, Maine) placed 251st with a 30:21.3 time
• Freshman JD Ndayishimiye (Westbrook, Maine) was 274th with a 31:10.1 performance
• Sophomore Ben Plante (Biddeford, Maine) finished 275th (31:10.2)
• Sophomore Jacob Boissonnault (Biddeford, Maine) placed 282nd (31:22.9)
• Freshman Connor Rice (Old Orchard Beach, Maine) was 289th (31:44.8)
• Freshman Michael Mason (East Bridgewater, Mass.) finished 305th (32:34.6)

RECAP:

MIT posted 81 points to edge Amherst College (91) and complete the sweep in the regional championship. Middlebury College (124), Williams College (137) and Bates College (211) closed out the top five institutions in this year's NCAA event.

Plymouth State University junior Sam Brunnette won the 8K race with a 25:22.8 time, less than two seconds ahead of runner-up Scott Mason (25:24.3) of Connecticut College.

THE RUNDOWN – WOMEN:

• Freshman Marisa Quirion (Gardiner, Maine) led the Monks with a 25:12.4 time and finished 245th overall
• Freshman Meghan Glisson (Merrimack, N.H.) raced to a 315th-place finish (26:43.4)
• Freshman Lindsay Barrow (Granby, Conn.) placed 334th with a 27:43.9 performance
• Freshman Elizabeth Cummons (Lincolnville, Maine) was 337th (28:00.9)
• Freshman Britney Theroux (West Warwick, R.I.) finished 347th (28:38.1)
• Sophomore Analyse Harris (Windham, Maine) placed 351st (28:59.4)
• Freshman Emma Belyea (Caribou, Maine) was 353rd (29:08.3)

RECAP:

With 58 points and three runners in the top 10 individually, MIT cruised to the regional title, well ahead of runner-up Tufts University, which posted 92 team points. Williams College (106), Middlebury College (113), and Bates College (150) rounded out the top five.

Coast Guard freshman Kaitlyn Mooney claimed top individual honors with a 20:22.6 time, nearly nine seconds faster than Amherst College senior Nicky Roberts (20:31.3).
