Hendrix Earns Capital One Academic All-District® Softball Honors

STANDISH, Maine - The 2014-15 Capital One Academic All-District® Softball Teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), have been released and Saint Joseph's College senior Theresa Hendrix (Scarborough, Maine/Cheverus) has collected NCAA DIII District 1 All-Academic honors.

Hendrix, a team captain who logged time in the outfield, in the circle and at shortstop as a senior, is now eligible for even higher academic honors as All-District recipients advance to the Capital One Academic Team ballot, where first, second and third team members will be selected later this month.

Hendrix is the third Saint Joseph's College softball player to earn All-District acclaim, as she joins former teammate Danyelle Shufelt '13 and Alyssa Dunn '11 on the short list of honorees.

A three-sport athlete who also played field hockey and basketball while attending Physical Education courses at Saint Joseph's, Hendrix wrapped up her collegiate career this spring having played in a grand total of 314 games over 12 seasons. She helped her three teams post a collective 246-96 (.719) overall record with a 142-32 (.816) mark in conference play with four Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championships and subsequent NCAA Tournament appearances during her time on the field and the court.

As a standout on the softball diamond, Hendrix enjoyed a career-year in her final season, hitting.417 (50-120) with 40 runs, 13 doubles, six triples, six home runs and 11 stolen bases while starting all 40 of the Monks' games. She was also one of the team's top pitchers and led the SJC staff in ERA (1.92), wins (7), appearances (15), strikeouts (39) and opponents' batting average (.211). Hendrix led the GNAC in runs, total bases (93), walks (24) and slugging percentage (.775), ranked second in doubles and triples, and third in home runs and RBI.

Hendrix capped her collegiate career with a .391 (195-499) batting average while totaling 135 runs, 51 doubles, 21 triples, 16 homers, 139 RBI and 21 stolen bases in as many attempts over 168 games. She is the program's all-time triples leader and ranks second in team history in home runs, slugging (.673), total bases (336) and extra-base hits (88), third in doubles, RBI and OPS (1.131), and fourth in hits.

She earned All-Conference honors all four years as a member of the Monks' softball team and the high academic award brings her career accolade total to 35, with nine academic honors, five All-Conference awards, a pair of regional awards and five postseason honors, including GNAC Tournament Most Valuable Player acclaim in 2012.

Hendrix is the only player from the Great Northeast Athletic Conference to earn Capital One Academic All-District® Softball honors this spring and one of two (Megan Michie of Colby College being the other) hailing from a Maine college or university to claim the academic award.

Capital One has been the entitlement rights holder to CoSIDA's Academic All-America teams programs since 2011.

The Academic All-District ® teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. This is the fourth year of the expanded Academic All-America® program as CoSIDA moved from recognizing a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non-Division I) and has doubled the number of scholar-athletes honored. The expanded teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division Academic All-America ® Team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.

The Capital One Division II and III Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures, to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2014-15 DII and DIII Academic All-America® teams program.

First-team Academic All-District ® honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month and in early June.
