Black Bears Topple Monks, 8-0

ORONO, Maine – University of Maine (17-15) blanked Saint Joseph's College (17-12), 8-0, in a non-conference softball game on Wednesday afternoon.

The Monks held the Black Bears off the board until the bottom of the fourth, when the hosts scored four runs off five hits and an SJC error. Maine made it a 7-0 game with three runs off three hits in the fifth and closed out the game, via the mercy rule, with a run off three hits in the bottom of the sixth.

Senior center fielder Megen Pollini (Wolfeboro, N.H.) was 2-2 with a pair of singles while junior Jennifer Murphy (Andover, Mass.) and freshmen Melodie Bailey (Lebanon, Maine) and Anita Mooradian (Windham, Maine) produced one hit apiece in the loss.

Senior Erica Boulanger (Somersworth, N.H.) took the loss after allowing eight runs off 14 hits and three walks with three strikeouts over five innings.

Saint Joseph's returns to action Saturday with a GNAC doubleheader at Emmanuel College starting at 12:00 PM.
