STANDISH, Maine – Co-Head Coaches Jamie Smyth '92 and Dick Bailey are pleased to announce the Saint Joseph's College softball Class of 2022.
The softball freshman class features six players from Maine (4) and Massachusetts (2) and brings a wealth of flexibility to the Monks' roster, as nearly every newcomer is capable of playing multiple positions.
Under the watch of Smyth and Bailey last spring the softball team went 20-19 overall with a 15-9 record in conference play en route to securing the #4 seed in the GNAC Tournament. The Monks opened with a 7-3 win over Albertus Magnus College but bowed out of tourney contention with losses to top-seeded Suffolk University and #3 Simmons College.
Both coaches reached lofty milestones during the 2018 campaign, as Bailey – who will be in his 19th season with the Monks next spring – reached the 600-victory mark when St. Joe's defeated Albertus Magnus College, 9-1, on April 29th, 2018.
Smyth, who just completed his 21st season at the helm for the Monks, finished the 2018 campaign with a 514-331 (.608) career record is the winningest coach in SJC Softball history. Smyth is just the fourth skipper in the 48-year history of Saint Joseph's College Athletics to record 500 career wins and joins baseball Head Coach Will Sanborn '86 (705), women's basketball Head Coach Mike McDevitt '83 (603), and former men's basketball Head Coach Rick Simonds (504) on the exclusive 500-victory list.

Ashley Emery Why Saint Joseph's? Shayla Harris Why Saint Joseph's? I absolutely love the campus and how the class sizes are small so I will be able to get to know and have that one on one time with my professors. When I first visited the campus I loved how it felt like home. High School: Played softball, basketball, and soccer at Gorham High School…three-year SMAA Honorable Mention in softball…two-year Regional Champions for soccer and one year Regional Champion in basketball and State Champions in basketball…was mentioned in the top 10 players to watch sophomore year and that season only allowed one passed ball while catching every game…claimed high honors and honor roll. Camryn LaPierre Why Saint Joseph's? Location and softball. High school: was a four year starter in field hockey, swimming, track, and softball…numerous awards from all three sports…appeared in a state championship for field hockey…best batting average was .518 and selected as First Team All-Conference as a shortstop…played for Maine Thunder for five years and Worcester Hawks for one year…claimed honor roll all four years, National Honor Society for three years and was the National Art Honors Society president for three years. Bailey Rassol Why Saint Joseph's? I liked the small community and it has my major which is a huge plus. High school: Played softball and volleyball at Dighton-Rehoboth Regional High School…2018 Sun Chronicle All-Star…appeared in the South Coast Conference Championship twice…batted .380 last season…played club for New England Phoenix Gold. Hayley Tighe Why Saint Joseph's College? The campus is beautiful, on top of that I really enjoyed everyone there and how welcomed they make you feel. I love that I feel I will really be a part of the community and be able to find myself there. High School: Played softball, volleyball, basketball and field hockey at Holy Name Central Catholic High School…was on honor roll and in the National Honor Society. Community Service: Volunteered at Camp Sunshine, worked at homeless shelters and provided sports equipment for little children who couldn't afford it.
