Bailey, Charest & Pomerleau Claim All-GNAC Accolades

STANDISH, Maine – The 2019 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Softball postseason accolades have been released and three Saint Joseph's College players have been honored.

Senior first baseman Melodie Bailey (Lebanon, Maine) has claimed First Team honors, junior outfielder Madisyn Charest (Sidney, Maine) is listed on the Second Team, and junior second baseman Libby Pomerleau (Limerick, Maine) has collected Third Team All-Conference honors.

Bailey received First Team All-GNAC honors for the second-consecutive season after hitting .393 (44-112) with 25 runs, seven doubles, two triples, 24 RBI and six stolen bases while starting all 36 of the Monks' games this spring. She ranked 11th in the conference in hits and OBP (.456) and struck out just four times in 125 plate appearances – or once every 31.3 at-bats – during her senior season. She led the team in batting average, hits, RBI, total bases (55), OBP, stolen bases, multiple-hit games (11) and multi-RBI contests (5).

In 153 career games Bailey hit .360 (167-464) with 89 runs, 35 doubles, six triples, one home run, 84 RBI, and 15 stolen bases.

Charest collects her first All-Conference nod after hitting .368 (32-87) with four doubles, two triples, 16 RBI and three stolen bases over 34 games during a breakout junior season. She tied for the team-lead in runs scored (26) and ranked second on the club in batting average, multiple-hit games (9) and multi-RBI efforts (4).

In 79 games over three seasons Charest is hitting .318 (56-176) with 40 runs, seven doubles, two triples, 20 RBI and six stolen bases.

Pomerleau, a 2018 Second Team honoree, claims Third Team honors after hitting .328 (39-119) with 26 runs, two doubles, a triple, 12 RBI and five stolen bases in 35 games. She tied for the team-lead in runs and ranked second on the squad in hits and total bases (43). Pomerleau capped the season on a 13-game hitting streak, the longest by an SJC player this spring.

In 109 career games Pomerleau owns a .382 (134-119) batting average with 84 runs, 12 doubles, six triples, four home runs, 39 RBI and 24 steals (in 25 attempts).

Under the watch of Co-Head Coaches Jamie Smyth '92 and Dick Bailey this spring the Monks went 13-23 overall with an 8-8 record in conference play. As the #3 seed in the GNAC North Division, St. Joe's recorded a lengthy run in the GNAC Tournament, as the Monks defeated #4N Norwich, 9-4, in the first round of the conference tournament and topped #2N Suffolk, 6-4 in 11 innings before falling to #1N Emmanuel, 4-2. Saint Joseph's then knocked off reigning champion Johnson & Wales in a losers' bracket game, 3-2, before suffering a season-ending 5-3 loss at the hands of #1S Simmons on May 4th.
