2014-15 Women's Basketball Schedule Announced

STANDISH, Maine – The 2014-15 Saint Joseph's women's basketball schedule has been released. The Monks will play a full complement of 25 games this season with a docket that includes 11 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contests and 11 home events.

The new campaign, the 23rd for Head Coach Mike McDevitt '83, kicks off with a pair of non-conference games in the Curry College Tip-Off Tournament in Milton, Massachusetts. The Monks face MIT in the invitational opener at 1:00 PM on Saturday, November 15th and play either Curry or Southern Vermont at 1:00 PM (consolation) or 3:00 PM (championship) the next day.

The annual Costello Cup match-up with University of Southern Maine will be played in Gorham as part of a doubleheader with the men's teams at 5:30 PM on Sunday, November 30th. Presented annually to the winner of the contest between the rivals, the Costello Cup honors the late Dr. Richard "Doc" Costello, former USM Athletic Director and long-time basketball coach. The Huskies topped the Monks, 60-49, in last year's matchup and own a 20-4 record in the history of the Costello Cup series, which began during the 1989-90 season.

St. Joe's plays three games over Christmas Break, including a pair of contests in sunny California. The Monks take on Pomona-Pitzer College on Tuesday, December 20th and close out the 2014 calendar year with game versus Occidental College the following day.

Upon returning to Maine, Saint Joseph's begins conference play with three games against GNAC foes over a stretch of nine days, starting with a home contest versus Albertus Magnus College on Saturday, January 10th.  The Monks play at Norwich University in a rematch of the 2014 GNAC Championship on Saturday, February 7th and host perennial contender Emmanuel College on February 14th.

The 2015 GNAC Tournament begins with a quarterfinal round on February 24th and continues with a pair of semifinal games on February 26th. The championship will be played on Saturday, February 28th and the NCAA DIII Tournament starts on March 6th.

Last winter, Saint Joseph's College went 23-6 overall and 10-1 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play en route to capturing the program's first-ever GNAC Championship and NCAA Tournament berth.  As the #2 seed in the conference tourney, the Monks defeated #7 Lasell College in the quarterfinals, #3 Rivier University in the semis and #8 Norwich University in the GNAC Championship before falling to #4 Tufts University in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament on March 6th.
