Cahill Breaks Monks' Career Blocked Shots Record

Cahill Breaks Monks' Career Blocked Shots Record

STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College senior center Morgan Cahill (Yarmouth, Maine) broke the Monks women's basketball career blocked shots record in a 64-55 victory over Rivier University at the Harold Alfond Center on Tuesday evening.

Cahill, who entered the conference contest with 200 career rejections, broke the record with 6:16 left in the third quarter when she denied a shot by Rivier junior guard Caitlin Perry (Nashua, N.H.). The block, which was her third of four in the victory, pushed Cahill past former standout Ashley Geel '12, who swatted 202 shots in 104 career contests.

Cahill currently leads the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) with 46 blocked shots through 20 games this winter and has ranked as the league rejections leader in two of the past three seasons.

It should also be noted that Cahill's current block tally is the most registered by any Saint Joseph's basketball player – men or women. Tom Ollman '88, who rejected 190 attempts during his four years at St. Joe's, holds the men's record.

Among all active NCAA DIII Women's Basketball players, only 10 have recorded more blocked shots than Cahill, a list that includes just two individuals from New England.

A three-time All-GNAC and All-State honoree, Cahill has reached several impressive career milestones this season. Through 101 contests, she has tallied 1,513 points and 816 rebounds and ranks fifth in program history in both statistical categories.

Saint Joseph's (16-4, 6-0 GNAC) will host GNAC-rival Mount Ida College at 1:00 PM on Saturday.
