Women’s Basketball Ranked Sixth in NCAA DIII Regional Poll

STANDISH, Maine – The first NCAA DIII Women's Basketball Regional Rankings have been released and Saint Joseph's College is ranked sixth in the Northeast Region.

The Monks, 17-5 overall and 7-1 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play this winter under the watch of 23rd-year Head Coach Mike McDevitt '83, sit behind Tufts University, Amherst College, University of New England, Bowdoin College, and Williams College in the inaugural 2016 regional poll.

GNAC-rival Johnson & Wales University, Eastern Connecticut State University, Keene State College, Regis College, WPI, and Connecticut College are listed 7th – 12th, respectively.

Three of the Monks' five setbacks have come at the hands of regionally ranked teams (SUNY-New Paltz, Regis, and UNE).  The NCAA Regional ranking is the first in the history of the Saint Joseph's College women's basketball program.

Saint Joseph's, currently in a three-way tie with Johnson & Wales and Emmanuel College for the GNAC Tournament's top seed, have three conference games remaining, starting with a home contest versus Norwich University this Saturday at 1:00 PM. The Monks hit the road for the final regular season games, as the team travels to Simmons College on February 16th and Anna Maria College on February 20th.

The 2016 GNAC Women's Basketball Tournament begins with a quarterfinal round on Tuesday, February 23rd.
