McNamara Named MWBCA Co-Player of the Week, Listed on GNAC & NEWBA Honor Rolls

STANDISH, Maine – Weekly accolades have been announced for the reporting period ending January 15th and Saint Joseph's College sophomore guard Kelsi McNamara (West Newbury, Mass.) has earned honors from three different organizations.

McNamara has been selected as the Maine Women's Basketball Coaches Association (MWBCA) Co-Player of the Week and is also listed on the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) and Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly honor rolls for her play in three contests last week.

In a 3-0 week for the Monks, McNamara averaged 18.5 points, 6.3 assists, 3.3 rebounds, and 3.3 steals per game while shooting 51.4% (19-37) from the floor, 42.1% (8-19) from downtown, and 90% (9-10) from the free throw line. The 2016 GNAC Rookie of the Year netted 18 with nine assists in a 62-44 victory over JWU on Tuesday and capped the week with an outstanding performance, scoring 29 points while shooting 10-of-15 from the field, including 5-of-7 from three, in a 71-54 triumph over Rivier on Saturday.

Through 15 games for the 13-2 Monks, McNamara leads the team in scoring (15.9 PPG), three-pointers made (39), three-point percentage (38.6%), free throws made (46), free throw percentage (80.7%), assists (68), steals (25), and – surprisingly – blocked shots (8).

McNamara currently leads the conference in three-pointers made and assists and ranks second in the GNAC in free throw percentage. On Monday afternoon, the sophomore standout broke the Monks' single-game three-point field goal record when she went 8-12 from downtown en route to scoring 30 points in an 85-64 victory at Anna Maria College.

McNamara shares the MWBCA Player of the Week honor with Maine Maritime Academy sophomore forward Alayne Felix (Mahopac, N.Y.), who averaged 15.7 points, 11.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.0 steals per game while shooting 84.6% (11-13) from the FT line in a 3-0 week for the Mariners.

Saint Joseph's (13-2, 7-0 GNAC) returns to action Thursday when the Monks play host to GNAC-rival University of Saint Joseph in a 5:30 PM start.
