Monks Shoot Past Lasers, 83-39

STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (16-3, 10-0 GNAC) remained undefeated in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play with an 83-39 victory over Lasell College (5-12, 2-8 GNAC) at the Harold Alfond Center on Thursday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Monks came out firing, shooting 66.7% (10-15) from the field – including a scorching 6-7 effort from three-point range – in the first quarter en route to securing a 27-6 cushion after the first 10 minutes of play. The Lasers, who have now lost six straight, made just three of 12 attempts, with an 0-7 performance from downtown, in the opening frame.

After two quarters, Saint Joseph's held a 39-18 advantage and essentially put the game away with a dominant third stanza, as the Monks outscored the Lasers by a 30-11 margin during the 10-minute window.

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:

  • Sophomore guard Julia Champagne (Brunswick, Maine) netted 16 points with eight rebounds and six assists
  • Sophomore guard Kelsi McNamara (West Newbury, Mass.) contributed 16 points, five assists, and three steals
  • Sophomore guard Hannah Marks (Waldoboro, Maine) came off the bench to score 11 points with five rebounds and five assists
  • Sophomore forward Emily Benway (Rochester, N.H.) tallied 10 points, five caroms, and three steals
  • Junior forward Regan McFerran (Albany, N.Y.) added 10 points with three boards and two assists while maintaining perfect lines from the floor (4-4) and three-point distance (2-2)

LEADERS – LASELL:

  • Junior guard Morgan Church (New London, N.H.) scored 16 points with eight rebounds and three assists
  • Junior forward Madison Cota (Bellow Falls, Vt.) added eight points and four boards
  • Sophomore guard Becca Fenton (East Hartford, Conn.) chipped in with six points, three assists, and a pair of steals

Both teams are back in action Saturday when Saint Joseph's hosts Anna Maria College and Lasell travels to Norwich University. Both GNAC contests are slated to begin at 1:00 PM.
