WATERVILLE, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (5-1) cruised past Colby College (2-2), 79-50, in non-conference women's basketball action on Wednesday night.

FIRST GLANCE:

Junior guard Kelsi McNamara (West Newbury, Mass.) netted 18 points to lead four SJC players in double digits and Saint Joseph's committed just five turnovers – including only one in the first half – as the Monks defeated the Mules by the largest margin in over 30 years.

THE REST OF THE STORY:

Saint Joseph's held a comfortable 46-28 cushion heading into intermission and posted a 34-14 points in the paint advantage in the lopsided victory. The Monks' largest lead, 29 points, was achieved with 1:14 left in the contest when freshman Madigan Cogger (York, Maine) made a layup to account for the 79-50 final.

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:

  • McNamara added four assists and was 5-5 from the FT line in the victory
  • Junior forward Emily Benway (Rochester, N.H.) tallied 14 points and a game-high eight rebounds
  • Junior guard Hannah Marks (Waldoboro, Maine) added 14 points, three boards, and a pair of assists
  • Junior guard Julia Champagne (Brunswick, Maine) chipped in with 14 points with three caroms and two steals and was 6-7 from the charity stripe
  • Sophomore guard Julia Quinn (Fyreburg, Maine) came off the bench to score seven points

LEADERS – COLBY:

  • Ainsley Burns scored 16 points
  • Katie McCrum tallied 12 points, four rebounds, and three assists
  • Haley Driscoll netted 11 points with four boards and two assists

TEAM STATS:

Saint Joseph's held the advantage in rebounds (41-27), points off turnovers (12-2), second-chance points (15-6), and bench points (16-8) on the evening.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

With the victory, Saint Joseph's improves to 13-14 in the history of the series with Colby College and has now defeated the Mules in three-consecutive meetings for the first time since the 1991, 1992 and 1993 seasons. The Monks' largest margin of victory over Colby is 42 points (110-68, 2/4/87).
