STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (16-1, 8-0 GNAC) toppled University of New England (12-4, 8-1 CCC), 74-53, in a non-conference women's basketball game at the Harold Alfond Center on Monday evening. The Monks have now won 15-consecutive contests and run their home winning streak to 30 games.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Saint Joseph's opened play with a 12-2 run during the first five minutes, a span during which UNE shot 1-7 from the floor with three turnovers, and UNE failed to rebound from the sluggish start, as the Monks proceeded to lead by at least seven points for the duration of the contest. St. Joe's attained a double-digit lead for good when sophomore Julia Quinn (Fryeburg, Maine) drilled a three-pointer, making it a 29-17 game with 6:22 left in the second quarter, and owned a 39-25 advantage heading into intermission.

Saint Joseph's kicked off the third stanza with a 12-5 surge with junior guard Kelsi McNamara (West Newbury, Mass.) netting a layup to cap the run and lift the hosts to a 51-30 cushion with 3:53 left in the penultimate quarter.

STAT OF THE GAME:

Saint Joseph's posted a stellar 54.9% (28-59) shooting effort from the floor while University of New England shot just 31% (18-58) from the field, including a 26.7% (4-15) fourth-quarter performance. The Monks featured excellent ball movement and held a 22-12 advantage in assists on the evening.

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:

• Junior guard Julia Champagne (Brunswick, Maine) notched her fifth career double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds and was 4-7 from three-point distance
• Junior forward Emily Benway (Rochester, N.H.) scored 18 points off a 9-10 free-throw shooting performance and added five boards with a pair of steals
• McNamara tallied 14 points, three rebounds, and six assists
• Quinn came off the bench to score nine points with a pair of rebounds
• Senior Brianne Maloney (South Portland, Maine) pulled down three rebounds and tied a career-high with six assists

LEADERS – UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND:

• Junior forward Laura Holman (Mostar, Croatia/Cheverus) paced the Nor'easters with 15 points and six rebounds in just 13 minutes off the bench
• Sophomore guard Ashley Coneys (Dover, N.H.) recorded 12 points and five rebounds
• Freshman guard Elyssa Nicholas (Southborough, Mass.) chipped in with 11 points off the bench

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

With the victory, Saint Joseph's improves to 50-18 all-time versus University of New England, which entered tonight's contest having defeated the Monks in 13-consecutive meetings. The Monks' last victory over UNE, a 62-52 triumph in Standish, took place exactly 14 years ago to the day (1/22/04).

For the Monks, tonight's winning margin over the Nor'easters is the largest since SJC defeated UNE by 22 points (63-41) on January 13th, 2000.
