STANDISH, Maine – The D3hoops.com and Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) national polls have been announced and Saint Joseph's College is ranked 12th for the third consecutive week in the former and has moved up two spots to 14th in the latter.
The Monks received 325 points in the D3hoops.com poll and 90 points in the WBCA rankings.
Saint Joseph's, 9-0 overall as of December 12th, remains as one of 23 NCAA DIII programs to have not yet suffered a loss after posting wins over Maine Maritime (79-58), Colby (73-58), and Husson (60-49) last week. The 9-0 start is the Monks' first since the 1998-99 season and fourth in team history overall.
Through December 12th, Saint Joseph's is scoring 75.3 points and allowing 55.3 per game while shooting 44.7% from the floor, 34.0% from three-point range, and 69.4% from the free-throw line.
As of December 10th, Saint Joseph's ranks third in NCAA DIII Women's Basketball in assist/turnover ratio (1.40) and fewest turnovers per game (11.7).
In this week's D3hoops.com poll, Bowdoin remains in the top slot with 18 first-place votes and 612 points overall and is followed by Hope (579), St. Thomas (575), Thomas More (566), and Tufts (518) in the top five. Amherst (7th, 475) is the only other New England program to be listed in the top 25 this week while Trinity (19), Middlebury (13) and UMass.-Dartmouth (7) received votes in the December 9th D3hoops.com poll.
The D3hoops.com Top 25 is voted on by a panel of 25 coaches, Sports Information Directors and media members from across the country, and is published weekly. Points are awarded on a 25-24-23-22-etc. basis.
In the fourth WBCA poll of the season, Bowdoin is ranked first with six first-place votes and 197 points overall and is followed by Hope (187), Thomas More (183), Amherst (175), and St. Thomas (169). Tufts is ranked sixth with 166 points while Eastern Connecticut State (7 pts) is listed in the "Others receiving votes" section.
The WBCA NCAA Division III Coaches Poll Committee is made up of nine head coaches at Division III institutions. All are members of the WBCA. The 2018-19 committee members are Brian Morehouse, non-voting chair (Hope), Renee DeVarney (Swarthmore), Kristen Dowling (Claremont-Mudd-Scripps), Alex Lang (Brooklyn), Jennifer Reimer (Case Western Reserve), Alex Richey (Oglethorpe), Mia Smith (Illinois Wesleyan), Daphne Thompson (SUNY Oneonta) and Kelly Thompson (Roger Williams).
The Monks will host UMaine-Farmington on Thursday night at 5:30 PM.
