BOSTON, MA - Top-seeded Emerson College (11-2, 6-0 GNAC) toppled
Saint Joseph's (6-8, 3-3), 24-7, in a Great Northeast Athletic
Conference Tournament semifinal match at Rotch Field on Wednesday
evening. Lauren Hagerman '10
(Scarborough, ME), Lizzie Farley
'11 (Scarborough, ME) and Alyssa
Marchant '11 (Wakefield, MA) scored two goals
apiece for St. Joe's in the losing effort.
Emerson rode the second-consecutive nine goal game from Meaghan
Ross '11 (Wrentham, MA) to eliminate St. Joseph's College from the
Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship Tournament. The
victory for the Lions places Emerson in the championship game for
the second consecutive year.
Emerson's Katie Dodge '11 (West Newbury, MA) started the scoring
with the game's first two goals in the first six minutes. Amy
Gervis '12 (Randolph, NJ) gave Emerson a three goal margin before
Marchant made the score 3-1 just over half way
through the first period. Emerson stretched the lead to 7-1 with a
pair of goals from Ross, Gervis' second marker of the game and a
Katie Peters '11 (Acton, MA) tally.
The Lady Monks answered with goals by Abigale
Pelletier '12 (Lewiston, ME),
Farley and Marchant to make the
score 7-4 with 14:25 remaining in the opening period.
Emerson then ran off seven straight goals to close the first half
and scored the first three of the second before goals from
Hagerman and Farley temporarily
stopped the bleeding. Emerson was able to score four more times
before Hagerman tallied her second marker of the
evening. The Lions netted the last three goals of the game for the
24-7 final.
Taylor Allison '12 (Pawtucket,
RI) made 13 saves in the SJC net, several from point blank range.
Kristen DeTroia '12 (Bridgewater, NJ) had 10 saves for the
Lions.
Emerson will host the GNAC Championship game on Saturday at 6:00pm
at Rotch Field against second-seeded Norwich University in a
rematch of the 2008 title game.
