PORTLAND, ME - Saint Joseph's (3-2, 0-1 GNAC)
trailed Husson University (0-3) 10-6 at halftime, but outscored the
visitors 13-7 in the second stanza, and 6-3 in last 11 minutes, to
clinch a 19-17 victory on Wednesday evening at Deering Memorial

(Wakefield, MA) scored a program-record seven goals, five after the
intermission, in the win and Lauren
Hagerman '10 (Scarborough, ME) added four goals
and three assists for St. Joe's.
The game featured three lead changes and the score was tied on
seven occasions, with the final stalemate coming 22 seconds before
Vanessa Brooks '10 (Bath, ME)
notched the game winner with 11:03 remaining. The 36 goals scored
by the two teams stands as a new Saint Joseph's single-game
record.
St. Joe's held a 3-1 lead after Lilly
Rodden '11 (Lebanon, ME) scored her first goal of
the season with 24:29 to go in the first half. Husson countered
with three goals, two from Kaylee Godan '11 (Old Orchard Beach,
ME), in the subsequent five minutes to take a 4-3 lead.
Jaimee Brett '10 (Otisfield, ME)
notched a goal 28 seconds later to knot the game at four apiece and
the game remained tied with 12:46 before the break after Husson's
Rebecca Hatin '10 (Jeffersonville, VT) and Marchant traded tallies
11 seconds apart.
The Eagles offense came alive in the final 10 minutes of the
opening half to score five straight goals, two from Caitlyn
Butterfield '11 (Gorham, ME), and gain their largest lead of the
game, 10-5. Brett cut the deficit to four goals
with her second marker of the game to cap the first half scoring
with the visitors holding a 10-6 advantage.
The SJC comeback effort was realized after the Lady Monks outscored
the Eagles 6-2 in the first 15:20 of the second stanza, with the
final goal coming from Marchant to knot the game
at 12 apiece. The teams swapped scores twice in the next three
minutes before Brooks netted the eventual
game-winning goal to put the hosts up 15-14 with 11:03 left to
play.
A goal from Hagerman 21 seconds after the
Brooks tally provided the Lady Monks with some
necessary breathing room. Eagles attacker Ashley Cyr '11
(Madawaska, ME) placed two shots past SJC keeper
Taylor Allison '12 (Pawtucket,
RI), the last of which coming at the 5:49 mark, to offset
Marchant's sixth goal of the game, scored with
6:36 remaining, to bring her team within one marker of tying the
game on both occasions.
Lizzie Farley '11 (Scarborough,
ME) and Marchant wrapped up the SJC scoring and
gave the Royal Blue a three-goal cushion, 19-16, before Caitlin
Ramsey '10 (Berlin, NH) managed to score with 19 seconds remaining,
making the final score 19-17, Saint Joseph's.
For St. Joe's, Brooks tallied two goals and two
assists, Farley and Brett both
added two goals and Rodden chipped in with a goal
and an assist. Megan Cutter '12
(Westbrook, ME) scored her second goal of the season and
Allison made 14 saves between the pipes in the
victory.
For Husson, Bradford notched four goals and a pair of helpers, Cyr
scored four goals and Ramsey added three scores. Godan and
Butterfield both scored twice and Eagles goalkeeper Nikki Burns '11
(South Berwick, ME) made four stops in net in the losing
effort.
Saint Joseph's will travel to Northfield, VT on Friday to take on
GNAC opponent Norwich University in a 4:00 PM start. Husson is set
to host Regis College in a 3:00 PM start on Saturday.
