STANDISH, ME - Lasell College (9-6, 4-2 GNAC)
outlasted Saint Joseph's (5-7, 2-3), 18-15, in a conference women's
lacrosse contest on Saturday afternoon at Westerlea Way Field.
Lauren Hagerman '10 (Scarborough,
ME) tallied five goals and added four assists in the loss, giving
her 61 points on the year, a new program single-season record.
Tina Canavan '11 (Stonington, CT) scored six goals to pace the
Lasers, while teammates Andrea Ward '10 (Hingham, MA) and Kendall
Barreiro '09 (Ossining, NY) both added three markers in the
triumph.
Alyssa Marchant '11 (Wakefield,
MA) opened the scoring with a goal off a Hagerman
pass 1:35 into the game, but Lasell went on to score six straight
goals in the following 14 minutes to take a 6-1 lead. The Lady
Monks fought back into the contest by outscoring the visitors 4-2
to cut the deficit down to 8-5 going into intermission.
With 12:49 remaining, the Lasers had earned their largest cushion
of the game, 14-8, after scoring three consecutive tallies in a
matter of three minutes. St. Joe's responded by going on a 4-0 run
with two goals from Hagerman, but the two-goal
deficit is as close as the hosts would get to sharing the lead.
St. Joe's held a slim advantage in shots, 45-43, and ground balls,
33-27, in the loss. Lasell collected 20 draw controls while the
Lady Monks gathered 13.
Amelia Santos '12 (Beverly, MA)
scored four goals, Marchant tallied three scores,
five draw controls and four ground balls and
Jaimee Brett '10 (Otisfield, ME)
added a pair of goals and six ground balls.
Hagerman chipped in with six ground balls and four
draw controls and keeper Taylor
Allison '12 (Pawtucket, RI) made 14 saves in
net.
Lasers goalkeeper Kristin Coderre '11 (Monson, MA) made 22 saves
between the pipes.
Saint Joseph's will play at Simmons College on Monday at 7:00 PM.
