STANDISH, ME - Saint Joseph's (5-5, 2-2 GNAC)
closed out a GNAC contest against Pine Manor College (1-6, 0-5) by
scoring three straight markers, erasing a two-goal deficit, to
snatch an 11-9 win on Saturday afternoon at Westerlea Way Field.
Alyssa Marchant '11 (Wakefield,
MA) scored the game-winning and insurance goals, both man-up
tallies, and Lauren Hagerman '10
(Scarborough, ME) notched five goals and an assist to go with six
groundballs and four draw controls in the victory.
Hagerman started the game scoring with a free
position goal 1:36 into the contest, which was tied on eight
occasions. Molly Manley '12 (East Greenbush, NY) scored three
minutes later to knot the game at one apiece.
The Lady Monks outscored the Gators 3-1 in the subsequent nine
minutes, with two goals from Marchant and one from Amelia Santos
'12 (Beverly, MA), to stake a 4-2 lead. After nearly 13 minutes of
scoreless play, Stephanie Ludwig '09 (Henniker, NH) and Elaine
Rodriquez '10 (Bronx, NY) tallied PMC goals within 1:30 of each
other to tie the game once again, 4-4. Hagerman
scored off a Megan Cutter '12
(Westbrook, ME) pass with 1:02 remaining in the half, giving the
Royal Blue a 5-4 edge heading into the break.
In the first three minutes of the second stanza, goals from
Hagerman and Vanessa
Brooks '10 (Bath, ME) offset scores from Rodriquez
and Ludwig, as the game stood at a 7-7 deadlock with 27:06 to
go.
Manley managed to beat SJC keeper Taylor
Allison '12 (Pawtucket, RI) with her second goal
of the contest two minutes later, but Hagerman
answered with her fourth tally at the 21:29 mark to make the score
8-8.
Rodriquez's fifth goal of the game, a free position marker with
17:51 remaining, gave Pine Manor a 9-8 advantage, a lead the
visitors would hold for over seven minutes. Not to be outdone,
Hagerman collected her fifth score of the
conference contest to tie the game at nine apiece at the 10:20 mark
to set the stage for Marchant, who found a way to
beat PMC keeper Angeline Capre '09 (Dorchester, MA) with a pair of
free position shots in the final five minutes.
For St. Joe's, Lizzie Farley '11
(Scarborough, ME) collected four draw controls and
Cutter corralled three ground balls.
Allison made 10 saves in net for the victors.
For Pine Manor, Ludwig tallied five draw controls and four ground
balls and Capre made 16 saves in the losing effort.
Saint Joseph's will play at Maine-Farmington on Tuesday in a
non-conference contest scheduled to begin at 4:00 PM. Pine Manor is
set to play at Salem State on Monday at 7:30 PM.
