PORTLAND, ME - St. Joe's improved to 4-3 overall
and 1-2 in GNAC play with a 16-6 win over Saint Joseph College (CT)
(0-5, 0-3 GNAC) on Saturday evening at Deering Memorial Field.
Lauren Hagerman '10 (Scarborough,
ME) posted another excellent performance, with five goals, four
assists, five ground balls and eight draw controls in the
triumph.
St. Joe's held a 3-0 lead seven minutes into the game as Hagerman
scored twice and Vanessa Brooks
'10 (Bath, ME) added a tally. Amelia Dufour '09 (Woodbury, CT)
netted her first of four goals in the game with 17:49 to go in the
first half to cut the SJC lead to 3-1, but the Lady Monks scored
six unanswered goals to take a commanding 8-1 lead into the
intermission.
The Blue Jays got a pair of goals from Dufour and outscored the
hosts 4-3 in the opening nine minutes of the second stanza to make
it an 11-5 game. St. Joe's answered with a run of five goals,
including a pair from Brooks, to assume a
comfortable 16-5 edge. Dufour added her fourth marker with 11
seconds remaining to cap the game scoring with Saint Joseph's on
top, 16-6, giving the Royal Blue their first conference win of the
season.
St. Joe's recorded 47 shots, with 40 being on goal, to break a pair
of single game records in the triumph. The Lady Monks held a 35-28
advantage in ground balls and a slim 12-10 edge in draw controls.
Saint Joseph (CT) had 18 shots and nine shots on goal in the
loss.
For Saint Joseph's, Alyssa
Marchant '11 (Wakefield, MA) scored four goals,
Brooks had three scores, and Lizzie
Farley '11 (Scarborough, ME) and
Megan Cutter '12 (Westbrook, ME)
both chipped in with a pair of goals. Lilly Rodden '11 (Lebanon,
ME) added a pair of helpers and Jaimee
Brett '10 (Otisfield, ME) chipped in with an
assist in the conference contest. Goalkeeper
Taylor Allison '12 (Pawtucket,
RI) made three stops in net.
For the Blue Jays, Pauling Huynh '11 (Hamden, CT) and Emily Johnson
'10 (Avon, CT) both scored goals and keeper Kaylee Santuccio '09
(Wethersfield, CT) made 24 saves between the pipes.
St. Joe's will host the University of New England on Monday at 4:00
PM, while Saint Joseph (CT) is set to take on Roger Williams at
home on Sunday at 1:00 PM.
