St. Joe's Falls to UMF in Women's Lacrosse, 10-9

FARMINGTON, ME - Saint Joseph's (5-6, 2-2 GNAC) dropped a non-conference contest to Maine-Farmington (2-4) on Tuesday, 10-9. Alyssa Marchant '11 (Wakefield, MA) paced the SJC offensive effort with four goals and an assist in the loss.

Amie Daniels (Lewiston, ME) cashed in a free-position shot with 2:02 left in the game to lift the Beavers past the Lady Monks at Prescott Field.

Daniels led the Beavers with four goals and an assist with three of her scores coming off free-position opportunities. Daniels also snared five draws. Lucy Sargent (York, ME) notched a hat trick in the victory with Kaeleigh Barker (Chichester, NH), Kara Hudson (Wells, ME) and Ashley Wentworth (North Berwick, ME) each scoring a goal. Wentworth also collected 10 ground balls.

Andrea Knox (North Waterboro, ME) recorded 11 saves for the Beavers, who held a 32-28 edge in shots.

For the visitors, Amelia Santos (Beverly, MA) supplied a goal and three assists and Lizzie Farley (Scarborough, ME) two goals and an assist. Vanessa Brooks (Bath, ME) and Jaimee Brett (Otisfield, ME) each chipped in a scoring. Taylor Allison (Pawtucket, RI) stopped 13 shots for Saint Joseph's.

After a 4-4 halftime score, the Beavers were able to use a man-up opportunity to take a 9-7 lead on unassisted markers by Hudson and Wentworth with 16:28 left to play in the game. A drought followed for Farmington with Saint Joseph's clawing back into the game on scores by Farley and Brett to even action at 9-9 with 5:28 on the clock.

The Beavers had been without a goal for more than 14 minutes when Daniels was able to take advantage of a free-position shot to put the hosts ahead 10-9. Knox made a doorstep save on Brett bid with under 30 seconds left and the Beavers made the clear to come away with the 10-9 win.

The Beavers will make a trip to Thomas College slated for Thursday. The game is scheduled to start at 4 p.m. St. Joe's will host GNAC opponent Lasell College on Saturday at 1 p.m.
