Nor'easters Surge Past Monks, 20-6

STANDISH, ME - The University of New England (3-6, 2-2 TCCC) defeated Saint Joseph's (4-4, 1-2 GNAC), 20-6, in non-conference women's lacrosse action at Westerlea Way Field on Monday afternoon. Lauren Hagerman '10 (Scarborough, ME) tallied three goals, two assists and eight draw controls for St. Joe's in the losing effort.

The Nor'easters opened up a 5-0 lead in the first seven minutes of play with goals from five different players in the pouring rain. Vanessa Brooks '10 (Bath, ME) put the home team on the board with a goal at the 22:19 mark to cut the UNE lead to 5-1.

The visitors answered with a pair of goals in the next four minutes before Alyssa Marchant '11 (Wakefield, MA) beat UNE keeper Tara Geraghty '11 (Barrington, RI) off a Hagerman helper to make the score 7-2, Nor'easters, with 16:51 to go in the first half.
Amanda Barker '09 (Gloucester, MA) scored her second goal of the game 1:14 later to provide her team with a six-goal lead. Hagerman responded by netting a pair of tallies 28 second apart to trim the deficit to 8-4.

Four goals is as close as the Lady Monks would come to sharing the lead on this soggy day in Standish, however, as UNE scored nine straight goals, three from Kate McCarter '11 (Bellingham, MA), to stake a 17-4 cushion. A Marchant marker with 47 seconds before the break made the score 17-5.

Hagerman started the scoring in the second half with her third goal of the game at the 23:20 mark and Danielle Wood ‘10 (Scarborough, ME) and Barker both scored goals for the victors in the second stanza to cap the game scoring with the Nor'easters on top, 20-6.

St. Joe's was outshot 29-12 and held a slight edge in ground balls (9-8) and draw controls (14-13) in the loss.

SJC goalkeeper Taylor Allison '12 (Pawtucket, RI) made six saves in net, while UNE keep Geraghty turned away three shots. Barker and McCarter both tallied five goals and an assist for the Nor'easters.

Saint Joseph's will host Salve Regina on Thursday in a 4:30 start, while UNE is set to host TCCC opponent Endicott College on Wednesday at 4:00 PM.
