Monks Improve to 3-0 with 17-3 Victory Over Pine Manor

PORTLAND, ME - Alyssa Marchant '11 (Wakefield, MA) scored six goals and Amelia Santos '12 (Beverly, MA) added four markers in a Monks Women's Lacrosse victory over conference opponent Pine Manor College (0-2) at Fitzpatrick Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Lauren Hagerman ’10 (Scarborough, ME) tallied two goals, three assists, eight groundballs, five draw controls and three caused turnovers and Lizzie Farley ’11 (Scarborough, ME) added a pair of goals in the triumph. Taylor Allison ’12 (Pawtucket, RI) made five saves in net for the Royal Blue.

For the Monks, the 3-0 start is the best in the three-year history of the program.

Pine Manor got on the board first, as Beth Deegan put the Gators up 1-0 with a goal just 25 seconds into the contest off a free-position attempt. The Monks answered with 11 unanswered goals, including three in the following four minutes, and carried an 11-2 cushion into intermission. Myrell Raymond scored a free-position goal for the Gators with 3:26 left in the opening half to put an end to the Monks’ run.

Jade Thyng ’13 (North Berwick, ME) scored her first NCAA goal, a free-position tally, with 8:54 remaining in the first half.

St. Joe’s continued to dominate in the second stanza, as Marchant led the way with four second period goals, including a tally 37 seconds after the opening faceoff.

Deegan capped the game scoring with her second goal of the game in the closing minutes of play. Pine Manor keeper Colleen Tencza made 15 saves in the losing effort.

The Monks held a commanding advantage in shots (39-12) and groundballs (33-11) in the victory.

Saint Joseph’s will travel to Bangor on Wednesday for a non-conference contest against Husson University. Opening faceoff is set for 5:00 PM.
