Monks Soar Past Blue Jays, 15-3

WEST HARTFORD, CT – Saint Joseph’s (9-0-1, 6-0 GNAC) defeated Saint Joseph (Conn.), 15-3, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women’s Lacrosse contest on Saturday afternoon. Amelia Santos ’12 (Beverly, MA) and Lauren Hagerman ’10 (Scarborough, ME) both notched three goals in the victory.

The Monks led 7-3 at the break and extended the cushion to a dozen with eight unanswered tallies in the second half against the Blue Jays, who fall to 0-7 overall and 0-4 in league play.

Alyssa Marchant ’11 (Wakefield, MA), Vanessa Brooks ’10 (Bath, ME) and Jade Thyng ’13 (North Berwick, ME) all scored twice in the win and Marchant added seven groundballs to her totals. Megan Cutter ’12 (Westbrook, ME) collected a game-high eight groundballs and added a goal in the triumph, while Erika Waterhouse ’13 (South Portland, ME) and Emily Wight ’13 (Westbrook, ME) also added markers for the Monks.

SJC keeper Taylor Allison ’12 (Pawtucket, RI) made five saves in net, while her counterpart, Michelle Silva ’10 (Bridgeport, CT) registered 19 stops between the pipes for the hosts.

Diana Soucier ’12 (Avon, CT) scored two for the Blue Jays and teammate Emily Johnson ’10 (Avon, CT) netted a marker in the losing effort.

St. Joe’s held an advantage in shots (34-8) and groundballs (55-26) in the one-sided contest.

The Monks will host in-state rival University of Southern Maine on Tuesday at 5:00 PM, while the Blue Jays will host GNAC rival Norwich University on Sunday at 1:00 PM.
