NASHUA, NH – Saint Joseph's (10-1-1, 7-0 GNAC) defeated Rivier College (3-8, 2-5 GNAC), 19-8, in a GNAC Women's Lacrosse contest on Friday evening. Alyssa Marchant '11 (Wakefield, MA) netted five goals to lead all scorers in the SJC victory.

Lauren Hagerman '10 (Scarborough, ME), who entered the game needing seven points to become the first SJC player to reach 200 in her career, tallied three goals and three assists and needs just one point against Emerson tomorrow to accomplish the feat.

Vanessa Brooks '10 (Bath, ME) and Megan Cutter '12 (Westbrook, ME) both scored twice for the Monks, while Amelia Santos '12 (Beverly, MA) and Erika Waterhouse '13 (South Portland, ME) chipped in with a goal and two assists apiece in the triumph. St. Joe's outscored Rivier by a 9-1 margin in the opening eight minutes of play, with Marchant scoring four of the SJC markers during the stretch. The seven-goal deficit was as close as the Raiders would get in the losing effort.

The Monks increased their lead to 13-3 after Waterhouse scored with 13:49 left in the opening half, and the Raiders mounted a comeback effort by tallying three unanswered markers over the next eight minutes to make it a 13-6 game. Cusack tacked on her first NCAA goal at the 4:27 mark to cap the first half scoring and the Monks opened the second stanza with a 5-0 run to put the conference contest out of reach for the Raiders.

Lauren Brett '13 (Otisfield, ME), the sister of Monks midfielder Jaimee Brett '10 (Otisfield, ME), paced the hosts with four goals and Alyssa Renaud '12 (Goffstown, NH) netted a pair for the Raiders.

Cusack paced the Monks with six groundballs in the win, while Brett and Hagerman both collected five groundballs in the win.

St. Joe's held an advantage in shots (33-18), groundballs (40-30), draw controls (2-1) and clears (12-10) in the triumph.
