PORTLAND, ME – Saint Joseph's (1-0) kicked off the 2011 campaign with a 20-8 victory over University of Maine-Farmington (0-2) at Deering Memorial Stadium on Tuesday night. Senior attacker Alyssa Marchant (Wakefield, MA) broke the Monks' single-game records with 13 points and 20 draw controls in the lopsided triumph.

Marchant scored seven goals in the first half, including a pair in the opening three minutes, to put the game out of reach early. She added to her program-leading goal tally with three scored to begin the second stanza and closed out the game with 10 goals and three assists.

For the Monks, junior midfielder Amelia Santos (Beverly, MA) added four goals and three assists, Erika Waterhouse '13 (South Portland, ME) notched two goals and an assist, Cassie Diplock '14 (Augusta, ME) contributed two goals, and Anneka Adame '14 (San Diego, CA) and Megan Cutter '12 (Westbrook, ME) both chipped in with a goal and assist apiece.

For the Beavers, Alyssa Neptune '12 (Readfield, ME), Aimee St. Germain '13 (Gorham, ME) and Hillary Morrison '14 (Camden, ME) scored two goals apiece while Miranda Levesque '14 (Sanford, ME) and Molly Carbin '14 (Scarborough, ME) both chipped in with a marker.

SJC netminder Taylor Allison '12 (Pawtucket, RI) made three saves to earn the victory while Haley Nason '14 (Saco, ME) recorded one save in 30 minutes of mop-up duty between the pipes for the Monks.

UMF keeper Hannah Goodenow '14 (Freeport, ME) made three stops in a losing effort.

Marchant's two early goals lifted the Monks to a short-lived lead as St. Germain and Carbin found the back of the cage with scores just 20 seconds apart to knot the game at two apiece 4:19 into play.

The Monks never trailed, however, as Marchant proceeded to score a free-position goal 33 seconds later and Cutter doubled the SJC advantage with a goal off an Adame pass with 22:07 remaining in the first half.

Later in the opening stanza, Marchant continued her offensive assault with two goals just 23 seconds apart to push the Monks' lead to 14-5 with 1:34 before the break. The Beavers responded by scoring twice, with goals from Neptune and St. Germain, in the final minute of the first half to make it a 14-7 score heading into intermission.

St. Joe's opened the second stanza by scoring six unanswered goals to erase the Beavers' hopes of a comeback bid, as Marchant netted three consecutive goals in the first nine minutes. Waterhouse, Santos and Diplock all scored over a two-minute span mid-way through the latter half.

Neptune capped the game scoring with a goal at the 6:09 mark.

With the win, Saint Joseph's improves to 2-1 in the history of the series with Maine-Farmington.

Saint Joseph's will host Thomas College on Thursday (4:45 PM) at Deering Memorial Stadium while UMF is set to play at Becker College on Saturday at 4:00 PM.
