Monks Handle Terriers, 16-5

PORTLAND, ME – The Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 16-5 victory over Thomas College (1-1) at Deering Memorial Stadium on Thursday evening. Emily Wight '13 (Westbrook, ME) broke the program record for ground balls with 15 in the non-conference triumph.

Senior Alyssa Marchant (Wakefield, MA) scored all of her game-high four goals in the 14 minutes of play to help St. Joe's carry a daunting 13-2 cushion into halftime. The Terriers scored three goals and held the Monks to three scores in the latter half but the effort proved to be too late as the Royal Blue cruised to an 11-goal win.

For the Monks, Marchant tallied four goals and an assist with five ground balls and eight draw controls and Amelia Santos '12 (Beverly, MA) registered three goals, two assists and six ground balls. Megan Cutter '12 (Westbrook, ME) added three goals and two assists, Erika Waterhouse '13 (South Portland, ME) chipped in with three goals, and Cassie Diplock '14 (Augusta, ME) contributed two goals and an assist.

Anneka Adame '14 (San Diego, CA) added a goal and seven draw controls and Rachelle Messuri '14 (Atkinson, NH) recorded an assist and six ground balls for the Royal Blue. Freshman netminder Haley Nason (Saco, ME) made nine saves to notch her first collegiate win in her first-ever start.

For the Terriers, Ceara DiBiase '13 (Westbrook, ME) scored two goals while Megan Denby '11 (Copiague, NY), Kiley Jolicoeur '11 (Oakland, ME) and Jillian Lambert '14 (Dayton, ME) added single scores in the loss. Jolicoeur collected a team-high eight draw controls while Katlyn Cash '14 (Epping, NH) corralled seven ground balls in the losing effort.

Thomas keeper Teshia Cates '13 (Skowhegan, ME) recorded 18 saves between the pipes for the visitors.

With the win, St. Joe's improves to 4-0 in the history of the series with Thomas College.

Saint Joseph's will host Husson University on Monday at Deering Memorial Stadium in a 7:30 PM start, while Thomas resumes play with a game at Colby-Sawyer next Thursday at 3:00 PM.
