Monks Tagged by Lasers, 18-5

NEWTON, MA - Saint Joseph's (2-1, 1-1 GNAC) fell to Lasell College (4-1, 1-0 GNAC), 18-5, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's lacrosse action on Tuesday afternoon. Sophomore Cassie Diplock (Augusta, Maine) paced the Monks' offense with three goals.

Britney Wuorio (Bolton, MA) and Ashley Slattery (Weymouth, MA) combined for 12 goals to help the Lasers earn their first conference victory of the season. Lasell has now won four consecutive contests.  

The Lasers jumped out to an early lead with Wuorio starting the scoring and a 1:46 later Caitlyn Brecher (Cheshire, CT) found Slattery to put the hosts up 2-0.  The Monks came back quickly with two goals by Diplock and Amelia Santos (Beverly, MA) to even the score at 2-2. Lasell closed the half on a 9-3 run, to take an 11-5 edge into the break. The hosts tacked on seven unanswered goals in the second half to pick up the GNAC victory 18-5.

Lasell goalie Alexa Katsigianis (Amherst, NH) held the Monks to five goals on the game, including zero in the second half and finishing with ten total saves to pick up the victory. Haley Nason (Saco, ME) took the loss in goal for Saint Joseph's, stopping four shots and allowing 11 first half goals before yielding to Elizabeth Giacchino (Melrose, MA) for the final 30 minutes.

Also contributing to the Lasers attack was Bridget Ryan (Chatham, NJ) with two goals, and Rebecca Stanton (Agawam, MA), Erin Gertonson (Bayport, NY), Jen Lemoine (Trumbull, CT), and Bri Daley (Watertown, CT) with one goal each.

Santos and Megan Cutter (Westbrook, MA) each tallied one goal for the Monks in a losing effort.

The Laser's will return to action Saturday March 24th when they host GNAC foe Anna Maria College and the Monks of St. Joe's will host University of Southern Maine on Thursday March 22nd.
