Gophers Defeat Monks, 16-4

TOWSON, MD – Goucher College (4-2) defeated Saint Joseph's (2-1), 16-4, in a non-conference women's lacrosse contest on Sunday. Junior attacker Macy Pagurko (Augusta, Maine) netted a pair of goals in the losing bid.

Four goals were scored in the opening three minutes, as the Gophers kicked off the game with a pair of free-position markers in the first 90 seconds and Pagurko and Cassie Diplock (Augusta, Maine) answered with scores in the subsequent minute-and-a-half. But the Monks would not score again in the first half as the hosts rattled off five unanswered goals and led 7-2 at the break.

Pagurko netted her second tally of the game 1:01 into the second stanza, but the Gophers responded with four-consecutive markers to put the game out of reach. Junior Anneka Adame (San Diego, Calif.) capped the Monks' scoring with a free-position goal with 13:07 remaining.

Junior Haley Nason (Saco, Maine) made five saves over 42:08 in goal before being lifted in favor of classmate Elizabeth Giacchino (Melrose, Mass.), who recorded four stops in 17:52 of relief.

Junior defender Rachelle Messuri (Atkinson, N.H.) and sophomore midfielder Lizzie Calnan (Westport, Mass.) provided five ground balls and three caused turnovers apiece and Adame collected four draw controls in the losing effort.

For Goucher, Hannah Khin scored five goals and Erin Reifsnyder tallied four goals and an assist on the afternoon. Gophers keeper Ashley Shaner made 11 saves for the hosts.

Saint Joseph's returns to action on Thursday when the Monks play at University of Southern Maine in a 4:00 PM start.
