PORTLAND, ME – Saint Joseph's (5-3, 2-0 GNAC) topped University of Maine-Farmington (2-3, 0-0 NAC), 17-11, in non-conference women's lacrosse action at Deering Memorial Stadium on Tuesday night. Freshman midfielder Mary Leasure (South Portland, Maine/McAuley) scored a team-high five goals in the victory.

Saint Joseph's stumbled out of the gates and trailed 4-2 after Maine-Farmington junior midfielder Molly Carbin (Scarborough, Maine) scored off an Ayla Allen (Rumford, Maine) pass 5:58 into the contest. The Monks went on to net 13 of the following 16 goals, starting with a Cassie Diplock (Augusta, Maine) marker at the 19:24 mark, en route to collecting the six-goal non-conference triumph.

Diplock added four goals while sophomore midfielder Kirstin McCombs (Lewiston, Maine) and freshman midfielder Kat Gadbois (Scarborough, Maine) tallied two goals apiece for Saint Joseph's. Junior attacker Macy Pagurko (Augusta, Maine) registered a goal and four assists, junior midfielder Anneka Adame (San Diego, Calif.) posted a goal and six draw controls, and junior defender Rachelle Messuri (Atkinson, N.H.) contributed game-highs of nine ground balls and six caused turnovers in the victory.

Junior keeper Haley Nason (Saco, Maine) earned the start in goal and collected the victory after making one save in the opening 30 minutes of play. Classmate Elizabeth Giacchino (Melrose, Mass.) took to the net in the second stanza and made one stop in the closing half.

The Beavers were led offensively by Allen, who scored a game-high six goals and added two assists and six draw controls in a losing effort. Freshman midfielder Mara Balboni (Oakland, Maine) recorded a goal and an assist and sophomore attacker Maddi Kadnar (Oakland, Maine) chipped in a goal and a team-best seven ground balls on the evening.

Maine-Farmington junior goalkeeper Hannah Goodenow (Freeport, Maine) made 11 saves in the cage for the visitors.

Saint Josephs' held sizeable advantages in shots (37-21), ground balls (37-25) and draw controls (18-11) in the triumph.

With the victory, Saint Joseph's improves to 3-1 in the history of the series with Maine-Farmington.

The Monks return to action on Thursday evening then the team hosts GNAC-rival Rivier University at Deering Memorial Stadium in a 7:30 PM start. Maine-Farmington is off until next Tuesday when the Beavers travel to Southern Maine to face the Huskies in a 4:00 PM face-off.
