Four Monks Claim All-GNAC Accolades

STANDISH, ME - Four Saint Joseph's College players have garnered 2013 GNAC Women's Lacrosse All-Conference accolades.

Junior defender Rachelle Messuri (Atkinson, N.H.) and junior attack Macy Pagurko (Augusta, Maine) have earned First Team honors while junior midfielders Anneka Adame (San Diego, Calif.) and Cassie Diplock (Augusta, Maine) have received Second Team mention.

Messuri led the conference and broke the Saint Joseph's single-season record with 86 ground balls this spring and also ranked second in the GNAC with 35 caused turnovers, a total that also counts as a new SJC season mark. The All-Conference accolade is the first for Messuri in women's lacrosse. Also a fine filed hockey player, she claimed Second Team All-Conference mention in the fall as well.

Pagurko enjoyed a breakout season with 30 goals and 17 assists for 47 total points and added 41 ground balls en route to claiming All-Conference honors for the first time in her career. The junior attack led the team in assists, ranked second on the squad in points and was third on the team in goals this season.

Adame earns Second Team All-GNAC for the second-consecutive season after registering 37 goals, seven assists, 48 ground balls, 113 draw controls and 23 caused turnovers during her junior campaign. She led the GNAC and shattered the program's single-season record with her draw controls tally and ranked second on the team in goals and third in assists this spring.

Diplock also claims Second Team All-Conference mention for the second-straight year after leading the Royal Blue in goals (55), points (61), game-winning goals (6), shots (130) and shots on goal (104) as a junior. She also tallied career-highs in ground balls (43) and caused turnovers (20) and heads into her senior season with 139 goals and 19 assists for 158 career points in 44 games over three seasons.

Saint Joseph's went 11-7 overall and 6-3 in GNAC play under the guidance of rookie Head Coach Amanda Cahoon during the 2013 season. As the #4 seed in the GNAC Tournament, the Monks recorded the program's first-ever postseason victory with a convincing 17-9 quarterfinal win over #5 Emmanuel College on April 24th.

The Monks went on to suffer a season-ending 21-10 setback at the hands of eventual GNAC Champion Lasell College in a tourney semifinal two days later. The 2013 squad set new program records for victories (11), games played (18), goals (224), assists (73), points (297), shots (519), shots on goal (402), ground balls (595), draw controls (238), caused turnovers (250), free-position goals (33) and saves (172).
