STANDISH, Maine – The 2015 Saint Joseph's College women's lacrosse schedule has been announced. The Monks will play 15 games this spring, including nine Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contests and eight home contests, all of which will be played at Deering Memorial Stadium in Portland.
Head Coach Rupert Lewis, who led the women's lacrosse team during the program's first two seasons – 2008 and 2009 – returns to the helm and inherits a squad that advanced to the GNAC Championship and set season records for wins (12), ground balls (679) and goals against average (9.33) last spring. Although this year's roster features plenty of new faces, the foundation is in place for another successful season with Coach Lewis in the fold.
The 2015 campaign is scheduled to begin with a home contest versus University of New England at Deering Memorial Stadium on Saturday, February 28th at 12:30 PM. The Monks host Husson University on Thursday, March 5th, play Maine Maritime Academy – at Thornton Academy in Saco – on March 9th, and at University of Southern Maine on Wednesday, March 11th.
The GNAC portion of the 2015 docket begins with a home game versus University of Saint Joseph on Saturday, March 14th. Saint Joseph's travels to Boston to face Emmanuel College in a rematch of the 2014 GNAC Championship game on Wednesday, March 18th. The Saints defeated the Monks by a 17-7 margin in the title contest and posted a 15-14 regular-season triumph over St. Joe's last spring.
The tilt versus Emmanuel kicks off a four-game conference road swing, which continues with games at Norwich University, Lasell College and Mount Ida College before the team returns home for contests against Albertus Magnus College (April 4th) and Rivier University (April 8th).
Four regular-season events remain, as the Monks play conference contests at Johnson & Wales University and Simmons College with home games versus non-conference opponents Regis College (April 15th) and the 2015 finale, against Thomas College, will be played on Monday, April 20th at 7:30 PM.
The GNAC Tournament begins two days later with a quarterfinal round while the semifinals will be played on April 24th and the championship is set for April 26th. All tournament games will be hosted by the higher-seeded team.
