GNAC Selects Caiazzo as Rookie of the Week

STANDISH, Maine – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly awards have been released and Saint Joseph's College freshman attack Elyse Caiazzo (Scarborough, Maine/Cheverus) has collected Women's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week honors.

Caiazzo kicked off her collegiate career by scoring seven goals with an assist and eight ground balls in two contests last week for the Monks. With 11 goals through three games for the 2-1 Monks, the freshman standout leads the conference in scoring and ranks second, behind teammate Mary Leasure (South Portland, Maine/McAuley), with 12 total points.

Caiazzo is just the second player in the program's eight-year history to collect GNAC Rookie of the Week honors, as she joins Alyssa Marchant '11 – who earned a pair of rookie awards in 2008 – on the select list.

Saint Joseph's will face University of Southern Maine on Wednesday at 5:00 PM at Deering Memorial Stadium in Portland.
