Caiazzo Honored as ECAC Co-Rookie of the Week

STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College freshman attack Elyse Caiazzo (Scarborough, Maine/Cheverus) has been named the ECAC DIII New England Co-Rookie of the Week. The freshman standout was selected as the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Rookie of the Week on Monday afternoon.

Caiazzo kicked off her collegiate career by scoring seven goals with an assist and eight ground balls in two contests last week for the Monks.

Through four games for the 3-1 Monks, Caiazzo has scored a team-high 15 goals with one assist, 17 ground balls, eight draw controls and three caused turnovers. She currently leads the GNAC in goals and shots (25) and is second in the league, behind teammate Mary Leasure (South Portland, Maine/McAuley), with 16 total points.

She is the third player in program history to collect ECAC weekly honors, as she joins Lauren Hagerman '10 and Alyssa Marchant '11 on the short list.

Caiazzo shares the regional weekly accolade with Roger Williams University freshman Leah Osborne (New Fairfield, Conn.).

Saint Joseph's kicks off the conference portion of the schedule with a home game versus University of Saint Joseph at Deering Memorial Stadium at 3:30 PM on Saturday.
