Leasure & Caiazzo Collect GNAC Weekly Accolades

STANDISH, Maine – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly accolades have been released and a pair of Saint Joseph's College women's lacrosse players have been honored.

Junior attack Mary Leasure (South Portland, Maine/McAuley) and freshman attack Elyse Caiazzo (Scarborough, Maine/Cheverus) have been chosen as the GNAC Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively.

Leasure tallied 19 points with five goals and 14 assists in three convincing victories for the Monks last week. The junior attack netted three goals with four assists in a win over Maine Maritime Academy on Monday, added three assists in the Monks' first-ever victory over University of Southern Maine on Wednesday, and tied a team record with seven assists while netting a pair of goals with nine ground balls against University of Saint Joseph on Saturday.

Caiazzo helped lead Saint Joseph's to three victories by recording 11 goals, two assists, 17 ground balls, 12 draw controls and five caused turnovers last week. The freshman attack scored four goals in wins over Maine Maritime Academy and University of Southern Maine and added three goals, two assists, eight ground balls, five draw controls and three caused turnovers versus University of Saint Joseph on Saturday.

Leasure currently leads the conference in assists (17) and points (28) and ranks second in the GNAC in goals (11). The GNAC weekly honor is a career-first for the third-year starter, who has already established personal bests in assists and points through just five games this spring.

Caiazzo garners GNAC Rookie of the Week honors for the second time in as many reporting periods and continues to pace the conference in goals (18), shots (34), shots on goal (28) and ground balls (25). She also ranks second in the league in points (21) and fifth in draw controls (13).

Saint Joseph's (4-1, 1-0 GNAC) is scheduled to play at Emmanuel College in a rematch of the 2014 GNAC Championship on Wednesday at 7:00 PM.
