STANDISH, Maine – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly awards have been announced and a pair of Saint Joseph's College women's lacrosse players have earned accolades.
Senior midfielder Kat Gadbois (Scarborough, Maine) is the GNAC Corvais Player of the Week and senior goalie Michelle Cunha (Enfield, Conn.) has been chosen as the GNAC Corvais Goalkeeper of the Week.
Gadbois tallied six goals and six assists for 12 total points with 12 draw controls and eight ground balls in a 2-0 week. The senior midfielder potted five goals and three assists with nine draw controls in a key conference victory over Emmanuel College on Tuesday and became the fourth player in SJC women's lacrosse history to reach the 200-point plateau in a lopsided win over University of Saint Joseph on Saturday.
Cunha posted an even 3.00 goals against average with a 53.8% save percentage in a 2-0 week for the Monks. The senior keeper, who also earned GNAC weekly honors last Monday, made six saves in a 19-6 victory over Emmanuel College on Tuesday.
Through 15 games this spring, Gadbois has recorded 73 points (41 goals, 32 assists) with 62 ground balls, 47 draw controls, and 27 caused turnovers. She currently ranks second in the conference in points, assists, and ground balls and is third in caused turnovers, fifth in free-position goals (11), ninth in goals, and 12th in draw controls. For Gadbois, who claimed the same honor on March 28th, the GNAC weekly award is the second of her career.
Through 72 career games, Gadbois ranks as the Monks' all-time leader in ground balls (268), caused turnovers (115), and ranks second in game-winning goals (11) and free-position goals (28), third in assists (71), goals (132), and shots (324), and fourth in points (203), draw controls (128), man-up goals (7).
In 14 total games this season, Cunha sports an 11-1 record with a 4.72 goals against average and has allowed 64 goals with 81 saves in just over 813 minutes for a 55.9% save percentage. She currently leads the conference in goals-against average, save percentage, victories, and win percentage (91.7). For Cunha, the weekly conference honor is the third of her career, with all three coming this season.
In 26 career contests, Cunha owns a 21-3 record with a 6.37 goals against average with 157 goals allowed and 139 saves in 1,479 minutes for a 47.0% save percentage. She is currently the Monks' career leader in save percentage, goals against average and victories.
Saint Joseph's (13-2, 7-0 GNAC) will host Mount Ida College (3-11, 2-5 GNAC) at Deering Memorial Stadium tonight in a conference contest slated to begin at 8:00 PM.
