Monks Net Five Unanswered Goals in 10-8 Victory over Husson

BANGOR, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (4-2) rallied past Husson University (2-3), 10-8, in a non-conference women's lacrosse contest on a chilly Wednesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Husson seemed to be in control in the first half and carried an 8-5 advantage with a 15-9 lead in ground balls into intermission. The Monks responded with renewed vigor in the second stanza with five unanswered goals, with four straight from junior Elyse Caiazzo (Scarborough, Maine/Cheverus) and the final strike from senior Jackie Wilson (Tiverton, R.I.), to account for the 10-8 final.

THE KEEPERS:

Saint Joseph's freshman Kaylin Mansir (West Gardiner, Maine) registered eight saves in the victory while Husson netminder Kaitlin Dolloff tallied four saves in the losing effort.

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:

  • Caiazzo scored seven goals with four ground balls and three draw controls
  • Wilson added a goal and two assists with three ground balls, three draw controls, and a pair of caused turnovers
  • Freshman Madison Beaulieu (West Gardiner, Maine) chipped in with a goal and two assists
  • Sophomore Kara Kelly (York, Maine) contributed a goal and an assist

LEADERS – HUSSON:

  • Amanda Deshaies scored two goals with an assist and eight ground balls
  • Mattie Russell tallied a goal and two assists with four draw controls
  • Kelsi Thibeau scored twice with a pair of ground balls
  • Mariah Carrier tallied a goal, three ground balls, and two caused turnovers

NOTEWORTHY:

With her second goal of the game, Caiazzo became the fifth Saint Joseph's player to score 200 career points…she now has 164 goals and 41 assists for 205 points in 44 career contests…she currently ranks third in team history in goals and fifth in points and assists.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

With the victory, Saint Joseph's is now 6-0-1 in the history of the series with Husson University.

Both teams are back in action Saturday, when Saint Joseph's hosts conference-rival Rivier University in a 1:00 PM start at Deering Memorial Stadium and Husson travels to Castleton University for a 3:30 PM conference contest.
