NEWTON, Mass. – Saint Joseph's College (6-2, 3-0 GNAC) topped Mount Ida College (10-2, 3-1 GNAC), 12-8, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's lacrosse action on Wednesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Mount Ida struck first with a Nicole Pavao (Peabody, Mass.) goal 6:46 into the first half, but Saint Joseph's responded four unanswered strikes and held a 6-2 lead heading into intermission.

The Monks extended their lead to 9-2 with three goals in the opening five minutes of the second stanza and held a 12-5 cushion at the 11:41 mark after senior Jackie Wilson (Tiverton, R.I.) netted a pair of man-up markers in a matter of three minutes. The Mustangs, winners of seven straight heading into tonight's contest, mounted a comeback attempt with sophomore Alyssa Kelly (Lee, Mass.) scoring three times in the final 11 minutes, but the effort would fall short.

THE KEEPERS:

Saint Joseph's freshman Kaylin Mansir (West Gardiner, Maine) registered 13 saves in the victory while Mount Ida split time in goal, with Jessica Henry (Wilbraham, Mass.) allowing eight goals with four saves in 32:01 minutes and Eleanor Garvey (Elkridge, Md.) giving up four goals with three saves in 27:59 between the pipes.

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:

• Wilson tallied four goals, two assists, five ground balls, five draw controls, and four caused turnovers
• Junior Elyse Caiazzo (Scarborough, Maine/Cheverus) netted four goals with two ground balls and three draw controls
• Sophomore Samantha Medlin (Kingston, Mass.) contributed two goals and two assists
• Sophomore Kara Kelly (York, Maine) chipped in with a goal and an assist with a pair of ground balls
• Junior Brianne Maloney (South Portland, Maine) notched three caused turnovers

LEADERS – MOUNT IDA:

• Kelly tallied five goals and an assist with three ground balls, six draw controls, and three caused turnovers
• Junior Emily McConnell (Dracut, Mass.) scored a pair of goals
• Junior Molly Thompson (Canterbury, Conn.) registered three caused turnovers

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

With the victory, Saint Joseph's is now 7-1 all-time versus Mount Ida College and has defeated the Mustangs in six-consecutive meetings.

Both teams resume play with conference contests on Saturday, when Saint Joseph's plays at Simmons College in an 11:00 AM start and Mount Ida hosts Albertus Magnus College in a 12:00 PM opening face-off.
