STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (2-0) toppled UMaine-Farmington (0-1), 18-2, in non-conference women's lacrosse action on a snowy Friday afternoon at the SJC Athletics Complex.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Leading 3-1 three minutes into the contest, the Monks rattled off 15 consecutive goals to claim a one-sided victory.
With her first tally of the contest, senior Elyse Caiazzo (Scarborough, Maine/Cheverus) broke the Monks' career goals record. Caiazzo's 211th career goal was scored 1:14 into the game and junior Kayla Kelly (York, Maine) was credited with an assist on the play. Caiazzo, who finished today's game with 217 goals, breaks the former mark held by Cassie Diplock '14, who netted 210 tallies during her career.
THE KEEPERS:
Saint Joseph's sophomore Kaylin Mansir (West Gardiner, Maine) improved to 2-0 on the season after stopping six of the eight shots she faced while her counterpart, UMF junior Heather Boland (Griswold, Conn.), notched 18 saves in a losing effort.
TEAM STATS:
Saint Joseph's held advantages in shots (41-10), draw controls (16-5) and ground balls (27-19) in the victory.
LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:
- Caiazzo netted seven goals with three ground balls and eight draw controls
- Kelly scored two goals with three assists, seven ground balls, and four draw controls
- Junior Kara Kelly (York, Maine) registered a hat trick with two assists and a pair of ground balls
- Sophomore Madison Beaulieu (West Gardiner, Maine) notched three goals
- Junior Samantha Medlin (Kingston, Mass.) scored two goals with four ground balls
- Senior Brianne Maloney (South Portland, Maine) picked up three ground balls
LEADERS – UMAINE-FARMINGTON:
- Sophomore Keilly Lynch (Lyman, Maine) scored both of the Beavers' goals and added a pair of ground balls
- Junior Samantha Cross (Bennington, Vt.) scooped up four ground balls
- Senior Carly Raymond (Topsham, Maine) added three ground balls and three draw controls
- Freshman Isabella Monbouquette (Bath, Maine) chipped in with three ground balls and four caused turnovers
HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:
With the win, Saint Joseph's improves to 5-1 in the history of the series with UMaine-Farmington and has now defeated the Beavers in five-consecutive meetings dating back to the 2010 season.

Saint Joseph's returns to action on Tuesday with a home game versus Bates College at 6:00 PM. UMF travels to Elms College on Monday for a 6:00 PM non-conference contest.
