STANDISH, Maine – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly awards have been announced and Saint Joseph's College senior Elyse Caiazzo (Scarborough, Maine/Cheverus) has been selected as the GNAC Corvias Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week.
Caiazzo collects the weekly accolade after scoring 10 goals with two assists for 12 total points while racking up 20 draw controls in a 2-0 week for the Monks. The senior standout became the first Saint Joseph's player - and fourth in GNAC Women's Lacrosse history - to surpass the 300-career-point plateau when she netted four goals in a victory over Norwich University on Saturday.
In 10 games for the 8-2 Monks, Caiazzo has scored 42 goals with eight assists for 50 total points with 40 ground balls, 69 draw controls, and 12 caused turnovers. She currently ranks second in the conference in ground balls and draw controls, third in goals, and seventh in points.
In 65 career contests, Caiazzo has tallied 246 goals and 55 assists for 301 points with 223 ground balls, 207 draw controls, and 71 caused turnovers. She ranks as the Monks' career leader in points, goals, man-up goals (17), and free-position goals (43) and ranks second in shots on goal (368), third in draw controls and shots (423), fourth in ground balls (223), and sixth in caused turnovers.
For Caiazzo, the GNAC Player of the Week honor is fourth of her career and first since March 22nd, 2016. She was also named as the GNAC Rookie of the Week six times en route to be named as the 2015 GNAC Rookie of the Year.
Saint Joseph's will play at Regis (Mass.) tonight at 7:00 PM.
