STANDISH, Maine – Head Coach Rupert Lewis has announced the women's lacrosse recruiting Class of 2022.
Lewis guided the Monks to an 11-5 overall record, including a 7-3 mark in GNAC play, last spring. As the #5 seed in the GNAC Tournament, the Monks suffered a season-ending 9-6 loss at the hands of the #4 Regis (Mass.) on Saturday, April 28th.
St. Joe's graduated three seniors from last year's team, as Elyse Caiazzo (Scarborough, Maine/Cheverus), Brianne Maloney (South Portland, Maine), and Emily Manning (Charlestown, R.I.) departed after leading the Royal Blue to a 57-14 (.803) overall record, including a stellar 33-4 (.892) mark versus conference foes, during their time on the turf.
All three players will certainly be missed, but perhaps the most difficult player to replace will be Caiazzo, who left the program as the owner of 14 team records, including the top marks for career goals (263), points (319), and free-position goals (51). The four-time First Team All-Conference honoree is the only SJC women's lacrosse player to reach the 300-point plateau and just the fifth in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) history to hit the landmark.
Defensive stalwarts Maloney – a two-time First Team All-GNAC selection - and Manning combined to start 88 games for the Monks over the last four seasons.
The incoming class features five players from three different with one attacker, two midfielders, one defender, and one goalkeeper making their way to the Shores of Sebago.
"I'm looking forward to working with this freshman class," adds Coach Lewis. "We have some big shoes to fill after graduating three experienced players and we're hopeful that the newcomers can contribute immediately."
