Monks Soar Past Owls, 6-0

STANDISH, ME – Saint Joseph's College (8-1-0, 3-0-0 GNAC) routed University of Maine-Presque Isle (3-6-1), 6-0, in a non-conference women's soccer match at Westerlea Way Field on Sunday afternoon. Sophomore Megen Pollini (Wolfeboro, N.H.) was credited with three assists in the lopsided contest.

The Monks' 1-0 lead heading into halftime was not indicative of the pace of play, as the hosts posted a 21-1 advantage in shots with a 7-0 corner kicks edge in the opening frame. The second stanza featured similar stats but completely different results, as St. Joe's managed to net five goals in the latter period en route to notching a 6-0 triumph.

Five different SJC players scored, as sophomore Hannah LeBlanc (Andover, Mass.) led the charge with a pair of markers while Sam Peters (Gorham, Maine), Kim Jordan (Bangor, Maine), Jodi Pollack (Andover, Mass.), and Doe Leckie (Naples, Maine) joined the Monks' scoring barrage.

Saint Joseph's senior goalkeeper Jaci Lorenzen (Windham, Maine) made four saves, all in the second half, en route to securing her sixth shutout of the 2013 campaign and 24th goose-egg effort of her collegiate career.

Overall, St. Joe's held a 40-8 lead in shots and a 13-1 advantage in corner kicks. With the victory, Saint Joseph's improves to 20-5-3 in the history of the series with Maine-Presque Isle. The Monks have now topped the Owls in nine-consecutive meetings dating back to the 2002 campaign. Eight of the SJC victories have been of the shutout variety.

Saint Joseph's has now won six consecutive contests, the program's longest winning streak since the Royal Blue recorded a seven-game string in 2008.

The Monks enter the thick of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) docket and will play four league games on the road over the next two weeks, beginning with a 4:00 PM contest at Anna Maria College on Wednesday.
