2013 Women's Soccer Team Awards

STANDISH, ME – Saint Joseph's College Women's Soccer Head Coach Jenelle Harris has announced the 2013 team award recipients. Nine different players have been honored for their play last fall with six different honors, including the Golden Boot, Impact Player, Most Valuable, Most Improved, Rookie of the Year and Unsung Hero awards.

Along with team honors, Coach Harris has also released the names of her team captains for the 2014 season. Rising seniors Sam Peters (Gorham, Maine), Danielle Daigle (Dayton, Maine) and Megan Ford (Pembroke, Mass.) and rising junior Leanne Comeau (Watertown, Mass.) will share the captaincy duties for the Monks this fall. Peters and Daigle have been chosen as team leaders for the second-consecutive season.

Daigle has earned the Golden Boot Award, which is given annually to the program's leading goal scorer. Daigle tallied six goals and three assists for 15 total points during her junior campaign.

Senior Lauren Chouinard (Gorham, Maine) and junior Kim Jordan (Bangor, Maine) share the team's Impact Player Award after tallying 12 (5G, 3A) and 10 (3G, 4A), respectively, last season. Chouinard potted a team-high four game-winning markers while Jordan ranked second on the side in assists last fall. Chouinard also claimed Second Team All-GNAC honors following the completion of hte 2013 season.

Senior goalkeeper Jaci Lorenzen (Windham, Maine) has been chosen as the Monks' Most Valuable Player. The ECAC All-New England honoree started all 19 games while posting a 0.84 goals against average and an .874 save percentage with 111 saves in 1706:42 minutes in goal in her final collegiate season. The two-year team captain tallied a 15-3-1 record with nine shutouts during the 2013 campaign and capped her career with a 1.14 GAA and an .823 save percentage with 27 shutouts over four seasons.

Comeau, the 2013 Most Improved Player, appeared in 17 games with 16 starts as a mainstay on the backline during her second season. A second team member as a freshman, Comeau emerged as one of the finest defenders in the conference and was recognized as such when she was listed as a 2013 Second Team All-GNAC honoree.

Freshman midfielder Desiree Parent (Westborough, Mass.) was chosen as the 2013 Rookie of the Year after tallying five goals and two assists while making an appearance in all 19 contests as a first-year player. Parent grew into her role as the season progressed and scored all five of her goals in the Monks' final seven games.

Senior Jessica Capozzi (Saugus, Mass.), Peters and Ford share the Monks' 2013 Unsung Hero Award. Capozzi, a two-year team captain, netted four markers as a senior while Peters potted three goals and Ford cemented her role as a force on the backline in her third collegiate campaign.

Under the watch of first-year Head Coach Jenelle Harris - the 2013 GNAC Coach of the Year, the Monks went 15-3-1 overall and 9-2 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play last fall. Saint Joseph's earned the #2 seed in the GNAC Tournament, but suffered a season-ending loss at the hands of #7 Suffolk University in the quarterfinal round. Tied at 1-1 after 90 minutes of regulation, 20 minutes of overtime and a conventional shootout failed to determine a winner, the Rams managed to earn the playoff win in the sudden-victory penalty kick round, effectively ending what was otherwise a fantastic season for Saint Joseph's.
